Asgard’s Wrath Brings High Fantasy Action to Oculus Rift

Sanzaru Games and Oculus Studios showed off what can only be described as hair-metal-meets-Skyrim-meets-VR in the form of the sure to be epic Asgard’s Wrath.

One of Oculus’ exclusive titles, Asgard’s Wrath hopes to port over some of the magic of Skyrim VR but at a much higher level of fidelity than that shoe-horned experience could offer gamers.

As you can probably tell from the title, Asgard’s Wrath will be heavily inspired by Norse mythology. Oculus Studios exec producer Mike Doran even described the general spirit of the game as a great epic wherein a play rises from the level of a mortal to a member of the pantheon of Norse gods. Naturally, there’s tons of action and mayhem to get there.

Billed as an action-adventure, role-playing game in VR, Asgard’s Wrath promises God of War-style action in a VR environment. For its part, ” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>Sanzaru games have a lot of experience with movement in virtual reality titles, making it the perfect studio for this game according to VentureBeat.

Doran told the publication: “I’ve had the honor of collaborating with them on Asgard’s Wrath through many different experiments and genre shifts that got us to what you see today, and that’s only a brief glimpse of what’s in store…Sanzaru has cracked the code on bringing visceral melee combat to VR. The fighting mechanics in Asgard’s Wrath anchor the title, require skill and encourage physical movement. It’s visceral, satisfying, and just fun.”

Combat is going to be front and center in the game’s themes and it sounds like an epic romp if ever there was one.

Players will be able to slow down time in order to plot their next moves.

Doran continues, “We’ve also incorporated some brutally satisfying dismemberment,” he said. “One of my favorite things to do in-game is to use a shield to ‘catch’ thrown enemy weapons like daggers, yank them out, and throw them right back. Another great moment is swinging your weapon to knock decapitated monster heads through the air.”

Coming out this year from Oculus Rift, Asgard’s Wrath sounds like an intense game. That said, we’re kinda looking forward to it just for that reason.
