Apple’s MR headset is the fruit company’s long-awaited foray into augmented reality and virtual reality technology, but details have remained deep under wraps. Well, what appeared to be new light on some of the features and a possible unveiling window were recently revealed by Bloomberg, claiming an announcement at this year’s WWDC event in June 2023 with a launch date of Fall 2023. It also reported that Apple may call its headset ‘Reality Pro’.
It appears that small numbers of software developers already have their hands on prototypes for testing third party apps, as well as confirmed specs; dual micro OLED displays (4K resolution each eye), 120 degree FOV like Valve Index for VR fans – two 5nm chips including main SoC powertrain with dedicated image signal processor on board plus waist-mounted battery providing 2 hours max use which can be tweaked via hotswappable method. Of design reports we see aluminum/glass/carbine fiber shell concealing cameras around device per aesthetic choice whilst outward display reportedly shows facial expressions and hand tracking provided by wand or finger thimble controller alternative paired best with second gen Airpods Pro headphones. Prescription lenses subtly attach magnetically to accommodate glasses-wearers along auto IPD setting aided by eye tracking camera setup while more than 12 sensors capture body movements if required PLUS LiDAR arrays offer surrounding room mapping both short + long range basis!
