Cyberpunk RPG Gamedec Posits a Virtual Reality World Gone Wrong

Everything cyberpunk seems to be coming into vogue as we get closer to the release date for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. We told you about a VR cyberpunk-themed title not too long ago, and today we’re going to tell you about a cyberpunk RPG that posits a world in which virtual reality has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

So it’s not exactly a VR game, but it features enough about VR to intrigue us as fans and probably merit a purchase.

You play as a Gamedec, a detective assigned to crimes that are committed in the virtual world. The trailer outlines things such as murder over a clan rivalry, child labor in a free-to-play game, and things of that nature but, as with most cyberpunk media, there is a heavy noir element to it all.

Heck, the trailer even references this with things change but human nature stays the same – a theme of most of Hollywood noir films.

And this human nature is often dark, depraved, and one step away from civility and into the shadow. Gamedec seems to riff heavily on these themes and, honestly, looks like a pretty compelling title. As for what kind of detective experience we’re looking at, no one has the details on that but many people are referencing the Sherlock Holmes title, Crime and Punishments, as a good example.

From our perspective, we think anything that does the genre right and presents a compelling story at the same time will be good enough. We’re talking Snatcher with a modern coat of paint.

Arriving in 2020, Gamedec will probably arrive before the big boy, Cyberpunk 2077, but the release date is not definite as of press.

You can watch the trailer for the game over on YouTube by clicking here.

What do you think? Is cyberpunk going to be the next big thing in video games or just a passing fad? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
