Virtual Reality Games to Play in 2018

When it comes to virtual reality games, separating the best from the rest is often less a task of subjective taste and more like an objective reality.

Since the niche remains relatively small when compared to other pillars of gaming – such as smartphone titles – users have to be more discerning about where they spend their hard-earned money. And not all VR games are for everyone.

Do you love fps games on regular consoles? You might love them on VR – or you may dislike it intensely.

To make sure that you know the best that virtual reality has to offer we’ve compiled a list of 5 cross-genre VR titles for you to consider adding to your collection. We believe these games represent some of the best games out for VR platforms in 2018 – and we think you’ll agree.

So whether you’re already a VR fan or someone that is still on the fence about virtual reality gaming, hopefully, this list of the best-of-the-best will help serve as a guide to getting you on the right track to experiencing epic VR games of 2018.

5. Rick and Morty Simulator: Virtual Rick-ality

Fans of the Rick and Morty series have tons to be thankful for in 2018. The Rick and Morty Simulator: Virtual Rick-ality basically lets you live in the world of the television show and engage in all kinds of random activities while you’re there. From puzzle solving to uncovering Easter eggs, Rick and Morty in VR is just the thing some people need to make the leap to purchase a VR headset. After all, if you’re trying to really experience what it is like to be Rick Sanchez, you can’t do much better right now than a virtual Rick-ality simulation machine. And you can have that on VR with this game.

4. Sprint Vector

Think racing plus Mirror’s Edge for an approximation of the experience that is Sprint Vector. A fast-paced game that emphasizes racing and overcoming obstacles, this title not only shows the immersive potential of a virtual reality game but also goes to great lengths to keep the experience fun and as comfortable as possible. There are a lot of VR racing games, but few do it as well as Sprint Vector.

3. Fallout 4 VR

Bringing the world of post-apocalyptic Massachusetts to VR is probably not the easiest task but Bethesda has done an admirable job in this translation. A title geared towards gamers that exist in that gray area between traditional consoles and VR games, Fallout 4 VR is not built for the medium from the ground up but rather adopted for it – and it shows. Probably best for players that have already experienced the console and PC versions of the game, Fallout 4 VR is an excellent test run of what fully-immersive, narrative-heavy VR experiences could be like in the future.

2. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

This game is so meta there should be a book about it. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is one of the few VR games that requires teamwork outside of the VR space. Basically, you’re defusing a bomb and you have a time limit to do that. In order to figure out how to defuse the bomb, you need to read the bomb’s manual – something that you actually physically print out. But of course, you can’t do everything at once, forcing you to partner with someone who guides you using the manual to defuse the bomb. If it all sounds like a bit of a production, it is – and that’s what makes Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes enjoyable and unique among VR titles to come out in 2018.

1. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Another translation of a home console title into the VR space, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard brings survival horror to the PSVR in a way that only Capcom’s classic zombie series can. Don’t expect much different in the VR version of the game if you’ve already played the console regular version, but if you’re trying to relive the horror experience in a new way then you shouldn’t miss Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. Polish and solid gameplay make it one of the best titles of 2018 on VR and probably should be part of your library of games if you value a diversity of experience – and intensity thereof.
